Resolution Commending Commissioner LaTonya Johnson for Dedicated Service on the Commission of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District

WHEREAS, LaTonya Johnson was appointed to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) Commission on March 28, 2017, by the Mayor of the City of Milwaukee and served from March 28, 2017, through July 27, 2021; and
WHEREAS, during her tenure, Commissioner Johnson served as a member of the Operations Committee from March 28, 2017, through July 27, 2021; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Johnson’s determined leadership to establish a diverse vendor base and promote local worker utilization on all District procurement opportunities resulted in the District purchasing $92 million in goods and services from local small, women, minority, and veteran-owned business enterprises (SWMBE) during her tenure; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Johnson has acted as a strong advocate for the revitalization of the 30th Street Industrial Corridor, supporting projects to mitigate surface flooding and create economic opportunities for local area residents and businesses; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Johnson’s contributions to the development of the District’s long-range planning and construction efforts, affecting billions of dollars of improvements to the region’s water infrastructure, will help protect our waterways and source of drinking water for generations to come; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner Johnson has earned the enduring praise, respect, and gratitude of her colleagues for her dedication to public service and commitment to improving the quality of life for every neighborhood and citizen in the region.
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, that the Commissioners of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District hereby extend to LaTonya Johnson their sincere appreciation for meritorious leadership and for dedicated service to the citizens and taxpayers of the Milwaukee Metropolitan area.
