Resolution Commending Commissioner Michael A. West for Meritorious Service and Leadership on the Commission of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District

WHEREAS, Michael A. West was elected to the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District (MMSD) Commission on August 11, 2008, by the Executive Council of the Intergovernmental Cooperation Council and served through April 17, 2017; and
WHEREAS, during his tenure, Commissioner West served as a member of the Operations Committee until July 20, 2009; served as Vice Chair of the Operations Committee from July 21, 2009 until May 23, 2010; served as the Chair of the Operations Committee from May 24, 2010 until December 31, 2011; served in an ex-officio capacity on both the Operations Committee and Policy, Finance, and Personnel Committee from January 1, 2012 through December 31, 2013; and served as a member of the Operations Committee from January 1, 2012 through the remainder of his term on the Commission; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner West served as a member of the Ad Hoc Subcommittee for Strategic Policy Initiatives from November 2013 through April 2014, helping to shape the long-term vision for the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner West served commendably as Commission Chair from January 1, 2012, through December 31, 2013, and as Commission Vice Chair from January 1, 2014, through December 31, 2013; and
WHEREAS, in response to the extensive property damage caused by the “Brew City Flood” of July 22, 2010, Commissioner West’s leadership and expertise were instrumental in the establishment of MMSD’s Private Property Infiltration and Inflow Program, which dedicated $65 million in funding to local communities to reduce basement backups in the region; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner West strongly supported the development of the MMSD Sustainability Plan that was approved on February 20, 2012, which identifies future approaches that MMSD will initiate to provide long-term energy savings, reduce customer costs, and make the region more resilient to the changing climate; and
WHEREAS, Commissioner West contributed to the development of the Regional Green Infrastructure Plan, approved on July 22, 2013, that will help the Milwaukee region chart a more sustainable course to protect the health of Lake Michigan and local waterways for generations to come.
now, thEREfore, be it RESOLVED, that the Commissioners of the Milwaukee Metropolitan Sewerage District hereby extend to Michael A. West their sincere appreciation for meritorious leadership and for dedicated service to the citizens and taxpayers of the Milwaukee Metropolitan area.
